General Information

How frequent are therapy sessions?

Usually, I recommend weekly sessions at a regular time, but of course we can discuss whether this is appropriate for you.

How long does each therapy session last?

Each session lasts for 50 minutes

How many sessions do I need?

I offer both short term and longer term therapy, depending on your individual needs.

Where do the sessions take place?

I offer sessions in person in Hatch End and via Zoom, depending on your availability, location and preference.

What is Attachment Informed EMDR?
Attachment Informed EMDR is a technique which focusses on how childhood experiences affected each of us and impact us in adulthood. I offer Attachment Informed EMDR to clients as an option to combine with talking therapy.

Adults

How do I know if therapy is for me or if you are the right therapist for me?

Starting therapy and choosing a therapist, can be daunting.  Initially, you can contact me for a free of charge 20 minute telephone or video appointment.

Together, we will spend some time, where you can tell me your difficulties and ask me any questions you might have.

If you decide you would like to try some therapy sessions, I suggest we meet a couple of times to help us both decide the best way to proceed.

Adolescents

How do I know if you are the right therapist for my child?

When a young person is under 18, a parent/guardian will usually make the initial contact by email or phone.

We can then arrange a free of charge 20 minute telephone or video appointment where you can tell me your concerns and ask any questions you might have.

Sometimes the adolescent might join the appointment with their parent/guardian or use part of the time to speak to me on their own.

We can then decide the best way to proceed.

Parents/Guardians

Do you offer appointments to help me with parenting?

Sometimes it can be beneficial for parents/guardians to attend some sessions rather than their child.

How can I support my child's therapy?

It is natural for you to want to know what is discussed during your child's sessions.  However, you can support your child best by letting them know you are available if they want to talk to you, but not pressing them if they do not.

Confidentiality

Is therapy confidential?

In order for any client to gain the most from their therapy, it is important that their sessions are confidential.

Can you tell me what what my child discusses with you?

In the case of adolescents, if I have any contact with a parent/guardian once therapy has started, this will be shared with the young person. The content of sessions will not be discussed without the young person’s consent in order to protect their confidentiality.  Occasionally, it can be helpful for a parent/guardian to have a review if their child consents to it.

What happens if my child tells you something concerning?

If an adolescent tells me something that I think a parent/guardian needs to know, I will discuss with the adolescent, how they or I will tell the parent/guardian.

Do you ever break confidentiality?

If I think an adult or adolescent is at serious risk of being harmed then I will need to inform other professionals. This will also apply if a disclosure is made, where I know that someone else is at risk of being harmed.
